This is an oil painting of my boyfriend John.

It was a painting I did for my Painting II class; however, I also made it part of his Valentine's Day present. (The rest of his presents included tickets to see Nintendo's Official: The Legend of Zelda Symphony of the Goddess , an X-Men tshirt, and a special sweetheart pillow).

We've been together for almost 2 1/2 years, and this was our third Valentine's Day together. It was AMAZING.

size: 24 x 48
media: graphite, oil

When you say 'graphite' under media, does this mean you are drawing the image first and with pencil?

Yes. Graphite = pencil.

Is it a detailed and shaded underdrawing you do in graphite first, then glaze in oil?
I love all the beautiful dramatic shading you do on all your figures. The pose seems simple, but it has a lot of challenges in it--perspective, white shirt, colourful skin tones. You've certainly tackled them all with grace! The result is stunning. Thank you so much for sharing!

Yes, I do an underdrawing in graphite (only shading the skin...the rest is simple line work); however, the graphite can take anywhere from an hour to 6 or 7 hours alone, which is why I always include it in the description of my paintings.

I'm very happy you like my work. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
